Critical Update

We've noticed during playtesting that critical successes are happening more frequently than intended—particularly when players lean into their strongest attributes and skill pairings. While it's natural for characters to excel where they're most capable, the abundance of crits has started to dull their narrative weight. To rebalance this, we’re introducing a new mechanic called Flair. Going forward, critical successes in combat will only trigger on a natural roll of 1. However, players who accumulate standard successes may still unlock what we’re calling "doing it with flair"—a moment of cinematic brilliance that allows for vivid narration and can lead to either minor or major effects. It's important to note that Flair does not result in extra damage, but instead heightens the dramatic tension and rewards creativity. For rolls outside of combat—such as survival or social checks—Flair doesn't apply in the same way. These continue to rely on actual critical rolls to achieve elevated outcomes. That said, we recognize some edge cases, particularly within survival scenarios, where a GM might feel that flair warrants something more. In these instances, GMs are encouraged to use their judgment until we’ve fine-tuned the mechanic further. Thanks as always for your feedback and for helping us refine Prosperon’s system.  The new mechanic updates are going live now.
